House-less
Saturday, July 29, 2006

Wheeeet...!!! We din hollAnd at all today!! (haha.. okay mayb one part when I read the road instructions wrongly.. hehe all my fault la..) Viewed one apartment in Newmarket in the morning and another one in State St in the afternoon. The one in Newmarket is pathetically small, and the ceiling is so low.. anyone with a 1.6m frame can reach the ceiling. There was one which was worse, the bedrooms are located at the basement area and the stairs which lead to the rooms is so small, I really wonder how those big sized ang moh can go down from there.

The house in State St was a 5BR one, but we didn't really like it cos it looks rather lok kok and there's only ONE toilet in the entire house. How can 5 ppl be fighting for 1 toilet?? Wierd design. Argh siannnn, got to source for new options again.. else got to just make do with the ones at Newmarket.. maybe.. :(

On another note, through this house hunting experience, it has taught us how practical ppl can be in the real world. Sad truth huh, maybe what ppl always say is true, that it is hard to find really true friends once we step into the working society. Not that everyone becomes really mean, and not finger-pointing at anyone in particular, but I guess it pays to watch our own backs and be more vigilent in whatever we do.

On a lighter note, .... the weather today was freaking HOT. Think melis, sm n I have grown so much darker today.. haha poor sm gets chaoda-ed super easily.. *hehe dun worry girl, u'll become fair during winter again de!!* And we did some shopping at Walmart!

I feel nua-ed. Hah.

Girls, let's not give up! I'm sure we'll get a pretty n cheap apartment soon de!! Gambatte!!!

So many things to settle!!
Friday, July 28, 2006

OooO one day passes so quickly!! 10pm again.. hha my eyes are beginning to close n they feel soooo dry..

Went for Lonza's Orientation this afternoon and I'm posted to the Process Development Dept! Hehe quite happy, but a bit apprehensive oso cos i'm the only person in this area. sm's been posted to mfg dept.. so got to work shift.. & she's been given this HUGE stack of purification notes.. haha poor her la..*pats her head*.. Contrary to S'poreans, Americans apparently loves shift work, cos of the longer holidays they get. Hehz come to think of it, quite true too, can make use of the 2-3 days break to travel around, should be quite fun.

Went for dinner with the rest at Fox Run Mall, man their serving portion is huge.. n with all that large amt of carbs.. eat liao oso feel like sleeping. Oh and it started raining in the evening.. First rain we experience here!

Tml's apartments day again, need to settle bank stuff.. -_-"

Hmmmm.. photobucket opens very slow now.. where shld I upload my photos??

Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Thursday, July 27, 2006

Finally reached Portsmouth after almost 30hrs of gruelling flight.. (okay not very too.. cos i slept thruout like the whole trip.. including all the transits..) Took quite a few photos, probably put up next time cos I can't seem to find my camera's wires haha..

Staying at Residence Inn now with sm in a suite! Very comfy except for the ooh-ing sound in my room. Yea.. each of us have a room, a QUEEN-sized bed, a tv and a toilet. Shared kitchen and living room.. damn shiok!! And it cost like USD 229 per night!!! If only we can stay here on a long-term basis..

Been living on bread n meat n lettuce these few meals.. getting quite sick of it haha.. I miss rice!!!! Weather here is damn hot.. Bright scorching sun.. it's 820pm now n the sky still looks bright outside my hotel window. And envt really dry.. hair feels dry.. face feels dry n peeling (yeeew), lips feel dry and I'm always feeling thirsty.

Today the 6 of us tried to find accomodation around Portsmouth.. in the end we kept getting ourselves lost in some ulu-pandan places. Holland for almost 5hrs.. Thank God for Melis, so calm n zai!! Hehe but at least we feel more comfy with the roads ard Portmouth n the surrounding cities. Result for the day: No housing. Bleh. But Americans are really helpful, always smiling n ever ready to lend a helping hand when we need help for directions etc.. Hopefully the next few days (from Sat onwards) would be more constructive.

Oh yes n dear friends, I will remember to eat (no nice food though...:( ) one.. haha get really hungry easily here.. & really thank u for coming down so early (at a niao bu shen dan timing) on Wed to send me off... I'll take good care of myself here, don't worry and do keep in contact thru MSN/email okay?

Really miss my family n sunny here!

Life is an obligation?

This story set me into great thougts:

One day an old man and his grandson went to the market together. The old man bought a donkey from a stall and he carried his grandson onto the donkey and they continued down the streets.

Some passerby then commented, "How can this young boy sit on the donkey and let his Ah Gong walk instead? So unfilial!". Hearing that, the old man carried his grandson down and he got up onto the donkey and the young boy led the donkey along.

A while later, they overheard somebody saying "How can this man sit on the donkey and let the young boy walk? This is so dangerous!". Immediately, the old man felt embarrassed and came down from the donkey. He then told his grandson saying, "Let's just walk together with the donkey."

As they were walking happily, a little girl laughed at them, telling her mum "Mummy look, why are they so stupid. Buy a donkey but don't ride on it. Then buy the donkey for what?". The old man looked at his grandson and both of them decided to ride on the donkey, and walked together.

Not long after, the old man overheard another passerby whispering to his friend saying, "Aiyoh, look at the poor donkey. How can the 2 of them sit on it? They are crushing the poor donkey lor." Hearing that, the old man didn't know what else he could do. So both of them down the donkey and then carried together, they carried the donkey home.

Somehow this story reminded me of how I'm always so affected by how people think of me and how concerned I can be about this issue. I always find it hard to reject ppl, fearing I'll hurt them or what others will say if I don't turn up for something/do something, not like this is a bad thing of course, but it can sometimes become a burden to me.

As how aptly Niz put it to me yesterday, "Life is an obligation...". No matter how true and how I could find myself associating with this statement, I really hope to change this side of me. Imagine how tiring life would be, if all our life, we are living just to please others. Ultimately, we'll just become indecisive people, not knowing/doing what we want or worse still, what is right. At the end of it all, we are just putting extra burdens upon ourselves isn't it? I'd rather live with this statement "Life is a choice".

Happy Birthday SF!!

Upgraded my laptop ram!! So stupid.. the motherboard can support to a max of 512Mb only.. wah liew.. got money also cannot upgrade loh.. Looking forward to my MacBook and my iPod nano.. haha hope everything will proceed as planned... if u are reading this wj, thank u!!!

Proceeded to Dhoby Ghaut to meet up with the rest of the girls before we head on to Minds Cafe opposite Paradiz Centre.

Had a really good time there. Laughed so much till my stomach hurts now.. haha.. Reminds me of the times the few of us from HI gather at Settler's Cafe to chill-out.

Still remember in uni yr 1, when we decided to scrape away the system of buying bdae presents to save money (except for our 21st bdae of cos).. dunno how come we suddenly restore the system back again haha. But anyway, it's the thought that counts la.. & once a year, we get to choose what we want for free! haha sorry mei, ur present was the only one which u didn't get to select what u want cos the system wasn't really restored back then yet.. haha.. next yr okay? Quite amazing how time flies, we have known each other for 8-10yrs liao.. man sounds so antique.. we must hold a party to celebrate our 10yrs of friendship ah! hehe.. Sf's bdae marks the end of the string of bdaes for the yr for the 7 of us.. Quite sad, cos next yr I won't be around in the gatherings. I will miss of u de..

Once again, HAPPY 23rd Birthday SF!! (PS: When will we be receiving the "hong se zha dan" from u?

*Ouch* My left shoulder joint hurts whenever i move my neck or swing my left arm.. Argh
