Camp OutReach

Woo.. think i'm a bit slow, this clip was shown during the annual WSC Welcome Tea a few wks back, but anyways..

Brings back many many memories. The days I started out being a volunteer at SAD, making friends, some of whom I've gone closer with during my uni years and more importantly, being able to be involved in doing something meaningful, and learning so much from the process. Organising this annual camp kept me sooo busy throughout my 1st 3 yrs in uni, all my wkends were burnt for it i think. There were a lot of ups and downs, many things happened, many things changed, but I have to say that I've never regretted giving in my time and effort for COR. I've participated in many other events as well, but somehow none can be compared to COR. I'm really glad the camp has taken off in a new direction and hope COR 07 would be yet another blast!

To remind us of little actions that touches the heart.

What does Love mean?
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?" The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined.

"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love." Rebecca- age 8

When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth." Billy - age 4

"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out and smell each other." Karl - age 5

"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without making them give you any of theirs." Chrissy -age 6

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired." Terri - age 4

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK." Danny - age 7

"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss" Emily - age 8

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate," Nikka - age 6

"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday." Noelle - age 7 (err...-_-")

"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6

"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore." Cindy - age 8

"My mommy loves me more than anybody . You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." Clare - age 6

"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken." Elaine - age 5

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford." Chris - age 7

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day." Mary Ann - age 4

"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones." Lauren - age 4 (Diaoz..haha)

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." Karen - age 7

"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross." Mark - age 6

"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget." Jessica - age 8

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge, to select the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

With dinners like these...
Saturday, August 26, 2006

As some of u know, yes thursday night we decided to eat out instead cos Teck says the seafood restaurant in Kittery has a promotion on Thurs. As usual, Teck and his 206 gang left w/o us. Humphhh.. Ah Teck cannot be trusted!! But anyways, the dinner was splendid!! Look at the size of the lobsters!! I feel hungry thinking of them now haha.. oopz -_-"

Here are the pics as promised:

Yesterday me n SC were supposed to be cooking, but cos of the seafood dinner, we pushed the cooking schedule behind. Yep so we were the chefs tonight! Preparing dinner for 7 ppl is really diffcult.. n with our tiny pans and pots.. When will we get our wok???

With dinners like this, I really wonder y i'm still not putting on weight. Haha.. dunno where all the food go to seriously..

Heard from mum n sis DD's on a biz trip to KL. Hope everything will go smoothly for him! So tired, shall go n koon. Update some other time. ^^ Brrr.. it feels rather cold tonight.. 15 deg C.. wooooo..

Correction.

I still prefer to be served rather than cook. Haha. Plus everyone here seems to have a flair for cooking. 吃得好,睡得好。

Ah and here's Mr Bah:

***************************************************************

Coming over here, I miss lots of things, I miss my parents, my sis, my bro, my dog, my friends. But I can't help but sometimes feel so free to be here, away from all the burdens. For the first time maybe, I can celebrate a happy new year, without having to remind myself constantly not to step on ppl's tails/toes whatever. Maybe girls tend to be more emotional and sensitive. We think more than we should be. Haha I'm sorry XXX, but I can't afford to fly u over.. it's really time u stand in other poeple's shoes and think in their perspective.

Life's already as complicated as it can be. Y harp on little things which will only make urself feel more miserable. Sometimes we just need to learn to take things in our stride and have a more positive mindset... Take things easy..

Just my 2 cents worth. Period.

Wild wild Staurday
Sunday, August 20, 2006

Was supposed to visit Boston's 88 Market (mini Cheena-town) this morning with the MTS ppl. Yea & of all days, the little city decided to flood itself... Think they have really poor drainage system here. A bit of rain only little pools of water starts accumulating everywhere. Even the area ard Lonza was a little flooded. Yea so there goes my waking up at 6am, reaching Lonza at 7am and waiting in vain till 830am. Thanks.

Heh but in exchange, got to visit the factory outlets with the rest and got myself a pants finally!

Anyway, just to turn back time a little, we went to Canobie Lake Park yday with a bunch of other TAP ppl. Had loads of fun!

Before gg and on our way there...

After super loooooong ride (partly cos of a massive jam + loads of other ppl gg too cos the summer hols are ending..), we finally reached Canobie!

Started with me being forced up the corkscrew ride. Quite an experience la.. haha not as scary as I thought it was gg to be.. prob cos the ride is too short (less than 5 mins i think..). Wasted lotsa yuan wang time queuing for "Mine for the Lost Souls".. crappy ride. Witness someone sleepier than me.. haha she was queuing and sleeping and replying to her hubby at the same time! Haha dunno what's making her so tired. Had a great time at Boston Tea Party, Bumper Car etc... SC won a giraffe for me toooo!! haha it looks like him though..

First name: Long Long
Last name: Bah

USA: Long Long, Bah
SG: Bah Long Long

Haha.. will upload more pics of Mr Bah when I get them. Hehe.. ^^

Then came the fireworks at 930pm.. One word: SPECTACULAR

Looking forward to Sept 4th now.. hopefully our NYC trip will come to pass!

Monday blues looming...

Quan Jia Fu

Here's the ppl i'll be living with for thes next 18mths..

They forced me to sit my first corkscrew.

They drive me to and fro work.

They listen to my nonsense & I tolerate theirs (hahaa...).

We are gossip, Taboo, Bridge, makan, Frisbee, Jogging, BBall kakis...

Through high & low periods.. cheers guys..

And our cooking & cleaning schedules's out. Gasps.

I used to hate going to the supermarket, cos the mart's lights drives me to sleep. Now I'm beginning to love shopping for groceries, choosing what I want & thinking about what dishes we can try cooking.

I used to hate cooking. Now I look forward to whipping up something nice.

I used to sleep late and wake up late. Now I can't go past 1am and I wake up at 7am.

I used to hate jogging. Now I look forward to jogging with them (though not very often..haha)

I'm glad I found ppl I can relate and talk to here, on top to all the fun n laughters we share, being able to tell them things which even some of my closer friends back home may not know.

统一就是不同!
Tuesday, August 15, 2006

Yet another day of reading reading and more reading. The worst was after lunch, when the digestion of food led me almost immediately into dreamland everytime I try to read something off the laptop... (yea.. each of us are given an IBM laptop which runs kinda slowly..) Quite paiseh cos I was so sleepy that I decided to rest on the table for a while to catch a wink, so 不巧 my sup must come & look for me at that moment. Heard her vaguely in my dreams calling "Denise" twice.. haha and wah liew the problem with me is that I haven't really grown accustomed to this name yet.. so sometimes I dun respond when ppl call me.. haha let alone at that point in time when I'm like in a daze. Woke up in a shock... and yea the rest is just paiseh paiseh paiseh. Haha but she's quite nice la.. told me she understands how boring it is as we start off now, nothing much we can do, but to read all the SOPs first. But this cannot go on!!!! Shall follow my Ah Ji's tactic from tml onwards, drink water & go to the toilet.. haha hopefully this helps.

And yes as some of u have already heard, our gas meter is turned on already!!! Had my first warm warm bath just now, and cooked my first meal on the stove. Even the dryer works perfectly now. Oh yes and how can I forget this, the huge bun sok tang was finally removed this afternoon. Everything's purrrrrfect!

Ah and talking about cooking, as the title states.. 统一就是不同!Heh got a pack of 统一面from WY, broccoli and egg from SC.

Haha cooking with ppl ard makes me damn stressed haha..

I love the taste of 统一!! Finally the familiar Singapore mee smell is within my midst again haha.. compared to the nua-feeling noodles bought from Shaw..

Arghh WY insist on taking this chui pic of me.. was 1/3 sitting, 1/3 squatting, 1/3 standing on SC's chair and trying to eat. We need proper chairs n dining table in the dining room!!!!

Off to continue with Grey's Anatomy series now..

Footnote: Okay Mr Poh, here's for u haha dun say I din write anything for u.. get me the earphones!!! Haha.. (kidding lah..) Hope can go over ur side one day lei.. like a lot of things to do & see.. unlike this place.. not much life..

Standard Operating Procedures
Monday, August 14, 2006

Okay work has officially started (or was supposedly supposed to be..). After a night of fun at 206's BBQ (not forgetting the game of Taboo which resulted in me having a bit of dry throat now), had to force myself to wake up at 7am & rushed thru breakfast.. haven't ate so quickly in a long time. Poor Alexan started his morning shift today n had to be in office by 7am.. gosh.

Finally have a clearer picture of what my role entails. I'm attached to the process transfer and development (upstream) department. Here, we have to be the liaision between the customers and the manufacturing group. So whenever a customer comes with a proposal, we'd have to analyse and assess it, to see how we can transfer the "protocol" from the customer into Lonza's own manufacturing capacity. We will also be the ones to pen down the batch records/instructions for use in manufacuring, intiate changes to the processes so as to optimize yield etc. Since I'm in the upstream side, I'd only e concerned mainly with fermentation issues. The downstream guys will be in charge of the purification side. I can't seem to communicate with my sup though.. haha she's a bit too quiet.. I seem to be talking more to px's and celeste's sup instead.. which i dun think is very good... hmmmm..

Attended 3 meetings alone today. Was quite boring for me cos I din understand most of the things they were talking about, companies' names are identified in 4 digits.. so all sounded rather confusing to me. The worst came when a PhD guy came into one of the meetings to talk to us about carbohydrates.. goodness.. tt was when i simply bth, kept falling asleep. Anyway that aside, I realised they have a rather novel way of naming conference rooms.. they name it according to the mountains here in Mew Hampshire. Damn paiseh cos the person I was shadowing told me to get ready to attend an MTS meeting at Mt Washington, so I gave her the shocked look.. diaoz.. -_-"

Along the day, went to F3 once (& got to put on the gown.. yeeeeks) and the rest of the time was spent reading SOPs after SOPs. Feels like I'm back into uni days, reading journals everyday. Don't have a choice I guess cos the company has to be accountable to the customers and we won't be allowed oto perform any tasks independently until we are certified to be trained to do so officially. Yepz, and so the first step is to keep on reading the set o f SOPs pertaining to our respective depts. *counting down to the number of SOPs i'm left to read....*

On a lighter note, the working environment here seem to be rather relaxed. Meetings are conducted in an informal manner and everyone bothers to stop and present to u with a smile on the face, asking u about how life has been... and work still gets done the way they should be! Simply amazing.

Oh and we've (MTS side) been invited to go to Boston's 88 Market (the chinatown area if I'm not wrong) this coming Sunday with the rest of the MTS ppl! Finally can do some major oriental shopping.. *beams*.. Can't believe they arranged to meet ~ 8-9am though.. SO EARLY!!! Hope they'd change the meeting time.. haha..

Very very angry cos the big "bun sok tang" is still camping outside our garage, breeding the irritating mozzies which keep sucking my blood. And yes I still have no gas.. so still cannot cook and still bathing in the ICY cold water. I pray tt those gas ppl will keep their word & come turn the gas meter on.. can't wait to soak in the hot bath after one whole week.

Went out on the highways for the 1st time in my life!!!!! Super high man and shiok!! Haha.. heng got SC to direct me in the car, else I'm sure to be holland-ed. Never drove at such speeds in my life b4 too.. a bit scary la.. but I'm sure will get better after a few more practices! Now got to work with getting my directions correct.. Everytime I'm behind the wheels, i tend to become v focused on my driving, then nv take note of where I'm heading towards.. v jialat.. haha.

My next aim: To obtain a US license.. haha so t i won't be an illegal driver no more...

We just had a pillow fight with the guys.. goodness.. -_-" & WY played the stupid blanket game.. HELPZ almost suffocated..

The Big Big move-in
Sunday, August 06, 2006

OOOoooo we've finally officially moved into our new home.. i love my new house!!!

103 Coastal Woods Circle,
Kittery, Maine
United States of America 03904

Really glad all the hard work of searching the newspaper, calling, making appts, viewing hses everyday ended off well. Been learning something new here everyday.. like reading the map (i'm a total direction idiot last time), finding apts, planning the move-in, budgeting.. the list just goes on.. oh yes we have to pump petrol into the car ourselves!

Okay so after some confusion (yea was a real headache..-_-"), we got to view this hse in Kittery, which is another state, just like New Hampshire's also a state.

We were enthralled when we saw this hse.. it's soooo many times nicer than ALL the rest we've seen and the price was rather reasonable.. Has 5 bedrooms, 3 toilets, 1 living room, 1 kitchen, 1 porch area and 1 garage. All carpetted and the paint looks new. Even the toilets look hotel-styled. Got to get and pay for electricity, gas and water though.. This one really got to thank the guys for securing the appointment for this hse, so that the 7 of us can stay together in this big n spacious place... we can even play baseball and frisbee outside in the carpark. Even the surronding serenity has drawn me to have the urge to start jogging regularly.. something i've not done ever since i had my last NAPFA test in JC2 -_-".

For the rooming, SC and Ben in 1 room are on the 2nd floor, WY and Alexan are in 1 room on the 3rd floor & me, melis and SM each occupy 1 room on the 3rd floor. Haha the 3 of us drew lots to select our own room, in the end i got the one facing the trees, hehe good thing melis dun mind so swapped with me and i got the brighter (but smallest) room.

Then came the paying of 3 mths worth of rent (yes.. i'm broke), buying of furniture ^^, cleaning up n moving in. I'm impressed.. we are so damn efficient! Though really v tiring, but all of us were really cooperative (yes.. i must give 2 thumbs up for the guys here..) and it took us just 2 days to settle everything.

How can i forget abt our treasurer cum spiderman WY, with his breathtaking stunt.. haha to suck out the cobwebs made by his competitors.. haha..

And we even drove back our own matteresses (7 in all..) in order to save the tpt n taxes..

Taken from inside the car.. mattress was tied on top.. was quite scary cos the winds were rather strong on the highways. We were so scared if the mattress shld slid backwards. So lak seh to have to go down n pick it up.. haha. Were horned by some cars too.. apparently the mattresses flipped backwards a bit so they were afraid if the whole thing will fly onto their car.. o_O What an adventure.

Finally today, we moved all our barang barang from the hotel. Thank God again for the guys haha.. for helping us with the luggages.. wah liew one of my bag is like 27kg lo.. (yea was fined at the airport..). Yea.. i can finally open up all my luggages and locate all my "missing items". And i realised i bought quite a few unnessary things (like 5 bath towels..) and forgot to bring along so many other impt things!!! (hmmm how on earth then did i exceed the weight limit..)

Tutu finally has a home!

Wah i love my room can.. haha mine's the pink theme.. See the curtains.. I cut and sewed the top part of the curtains to fit the rod cos the loops were too long initially. The "table" Tutu's lying on is actually my large check-in luggage bag, drapped with that pink piece of cloth. Design coutesy of Melis. Ya la Melis, li xiang gao la.. haha.. Yepz and Melis's room's green n blue, SM's simple with purple and pink, the guys's rooms mainly has a Zen design (according to them.. ahha).

One bad thing is that we currently have no hot water! Bathed in the icy cold water after a game of frisbee.. regretted sweating it out..-_-". Was practically running in and out of the cold water while bathing. Looks like i won't be doing any running either till we have hot water too.. ^^. The weather here is hot during the day (but it has become better, not as hot as last wk when temperatures soared to 95 degrees farenheit), and gets quite cold at night.

Just had a game of bridge and Zeus with the rest.. hehz sure doesn't feel like we are starting work tml! Hope i won't fall asleep when they start trying to feed us with too many new scientific terms and theories. Yawnzzz.

Rotting in hotel room with my fellow Teochew & Hokkien Elite Clan-mates cum housemates now.. collecting keys for our new house later.. I'm soooo excited.. gg to deco my room til sui sui. Haha..
